Safe Verification

Safe Verification is an optional and free process where users can have their identity and criminal background verified. The goal of this process is to help enhance safety and trust on the platform.

Users that have completed Safe Verification will receive a section on their profile. This badge indicates that the user has provided a government-issued ID, is not on the US national sex offender registry, has no serious criminal history available in US digital public records, and that the ID they submitted matches their face and provided information.

After verification is approved or denied, the ID photos the user submitted are permanently deleted from our system. We keep the submitted face photo so other users can see it on their profile since a user could later change their main photos but this photo will remain as a reference for other users.

Things we look for:

  • Ensure a user's ID matches their face and provided DOB and full legal name.
  • Ensure the submitted verification photos are unlikely to be AI generated.
  • Any serious criminal history (violent or sex offenses, fraud, theft) available in digital public records.
  • Any other felonies within the past 5 years.
  • Presence on violent offender and national sex offender registries.
  • Any other information that suggests a risk to other users.

Things we don't look for:

  • Credit score or bankruptcy status.
  • Past relationships.
  • Minor offenses such as traffic violations.

Things we can't look for due to privacy or real-world limitations:

  • Criminal history in many non-digital counties and several non-US nations.
  • Charges without convictions.
  • Sealed or expunged criminal history.
  • If they've stolen someone's identity and coerced or otherwise convinced them to apply for safe verification.

We also cannot gaurantee that all information provided by a Safe Verified user is completely truthful. There is no way to ensure that another person was not coerced into providing their information and photos, for example. We also cannot ensure that a user has not committed crimes that are not available in public records, nor can we access sealed or expunged records.

In cases where we can verify an ID, but find no matches in public records (such as people new to the US), we may show an ID Verified badge but not a Safe Verified badge.
